Gas prices at record high for this time of year

Detroit Free Press -- Labor Day marks the end of the summer driving season, but motorists hoping for one more big getaway will be in for a big surprise at the gas pump.

According to GasBuddy.com, this weekend's gas prices will be at a record high for this time of year.

AAA reports that the average national gas price is $3.82, 21 cents higher than it was during Labor Day weekend 2011, while Michigan's is $4.06, a whopping 30 cents higher than in 2011. In Detroit, a gallon on average is going for $4.08, up 29 cents from last year.

"The average motorist will be laboring a bit more to pay for gas this Labor Day weekend. When you return to work after the Labor Day holiday it might be a good time to ask your boss for a raise," GasBuddy.com's senior petroleum analyst Patrick DeHaan said in an e-mail.

Yeah, and prices are NOT falling with the resumption of refining along the gulf coast (as if that mattered).

No kidding???? Just think back a couple of months when right here in the Topics, they were predicting lower prices for gas then we have had for many Summers. Just proves, NEVER predict something GOOD because the industry will find a way to overcome something that would be in OUR favor!!!

This article is really funny, especially since it doesn't also include that the oil companies are enjoying the largest margin of profits during this upswing in gas prices

Why is this so hard to understand. Oil Companies pay bonuses on increases in sales this year over last. So if the price is down by $1 for 3 months, then it has to be up $1 for 3 months just to break even (no bonus). Up $2 for 2 month, now you're talking. (and of course the $1 can be millions, or billions, or trillions. The principle is the same)

Regulate Oil Speculation and this won't happen! If the Party of No would get their hand out of Big Oil's pocket this could happen. Bahahahahahaha!
