WFLI -- CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. (WLFI) - A story that never sleeps, the prices of gas.

For some area drivers Thursday, they weren't waking up to a nightmare, but a pleasant surprise.

According to gasbuddy.com, gas prices across the viewing area varied greatly Thursday. In Newton and Jasper counties, gas prices were as high as $4.00 per gallon. Just to the south in Lafayette, prices were anywhere from $3.50 to $3.55. Areas of Crawfordsville Thursday saw gas less than $3.00 per gallon. The last time the U.S. average cost per gallon of gas was $3.00 was in January of 2011!

So, it's no surprise when people saw the $3.00 mark in Crawfordsville Thursday, they were thrilled. But, it didn't last long.

Nearly every gas station along US 231 by the afternoon hours raised prices back to $3.49, except for

would be nice. Would even be nicer if diesel would come down.
Remember, diesel high = economy does not recover.

2.82 at some locs around here.

But what really amazes me is the spread between regular and diesel - I saw one station price for reg at 3.07, and diesel at 3.99 !!!

Some areas in Central Texas are already well under $3.

Maybe Texas will go Obama's way?

Nah, we are smarter than that.

So what was the reason for the sudden drop in fuel prices only to rise abruptly again? No answer was given.

I knew the price would go down near election time But what will happen after is the question I believe it will be on the rise again! The oil companys needed all that extra cash for campaign money to get pres re-elected

Does anyone else think that gas prices are falling suspiciously fast? Who has their finger on the button? I've seen prices dropping up to 20 cents at a time, they never drop more than 2 cents under normal conditions.

It's NOT the volume of available supplies that moves gas prices. But the COST of bringing the supplies to market!

I had to laugh this morning. I went to "town" for errands, and stopped at my favorite Mobil station. I was shocked to see folks lined up waiting to get gas....I have NEVER seen that before...and realized that the price had dropped to $3.79.9 ($3.80), and folks were actually excited!
I could not believe that people were wound up over the fact that they were talking about how LOW the price of gas was.
This is what it has come to.

Crude is down from $91 last week to $85 this week there have been no refinery fires or glitches and the hurricane isn't coming close to any refineries or platforms so there is no reason whatsoever for prices to rise. But I keep forgetting that a few cents increase in crude prices cause at least a 30 to 40 cent spike at the pump. As you notices though when crude dropped $6 in a week pump prices have only dropped a few cents. So no politician can take credit for a dam thing. They all say they can't do anythinga bout rising prices so therefore they can not take any credit for any decreases either. It boils down to big businesses are able to do as they please and corruption is rampid in all big business big oil for starters. Enjoy the so called low prices while they last Xmas is coming and big business needs to buy those big expensive presents for their families and friends so prices will spike again soon.
